"I’ve been invited to many book group meetings, but never have I experienced
such a delightful gathering of souls coming together to share the joys of
deep soul writing. The food was incredible. The people were delightful. The
space was beautiful. I need to hurry up and write another book so I can be
invited back!" –Janet Connor
Janet Conner is a wonderful author, but she is also a wonderful storyteller. Janet entertainingly shared with the Yoga Village Book Club the personal account of how her book, "Writing Down Your Soul," came into being and how her soul first communicated its being through her writing.
Janet poignantly described a period in her life when she struggled with domestic abuse and a subsequent divorce. It was during this dark period that she discovered the dawn of her writing. Though she owned a copy of, "The Artist’s Way," by Julia Cameron, she had never read it. A successful career as a consultant kept her distracted with appointments and speaking engagements. Her next engagement, however, was to be with herself.
One morning during this dark period, Harley, her Great Dane puppy, brought his beloved owner her unread copy of, "The Artist’s Way." Now embellished with his teeth marks, Janet opened to page 15 and read, "Anyone who faithfully writes morning pages will be led to a connection with a source of wisdom within. When I am stuck with a painful situation or problem that I don’t think I know how to handle, I will go to the pages and ask for guidance."
That moment marked the start of Janet’s dawn. She discovered her own unique way of writing down her soul and listening to the voice within. "Writing Down Your Soul" also provides insight into scientific research of the mind, body and spirit experience of holding a pen in hand and connecting with your inner consciousness. Janet’s voice has led her to the place where she is today. She shared that story with the Yoga Village Book Club, and it is that story she shares with her readers because she believes it is safe to open your heart and listen to your own voice.
